My sister has a 2013 Jetta and it doesn't have a coolant temperature gauge. The coolant light only indicates a low coolant level, as far as I know. How can we tell if the engine is overheating? I'm not expecting to be overheating, but I'm just curious to know. I also noticed that it doesn't have a low windshield washer level light either.

When cooking oil starts to smoke, it can lose some of its nutritional value and can give food an unpleasant taste. Oils with high smoke points are good for high-heat frying and stir-frying. These include: Peanut; Sesame; Soybean At the low-temperature end, oil has to be resistant to thickening so that it flows more easily to all the moving parts in your engine. Also, if the oil is too thick, the engine requires more Degrees API ( o API) = (141.5/SG) -131.5 Specific Gravity of Crude = (141.5) / ( o API +131.4) Considering the fact that the °API is referred to the temperature to 60F, my aim is to determine the density of crude at a different temperature (in example 60°C). I think an oil temp gauge is pretty important and wouldn't be without one on my 03 S. You will be surprised how long it takes the oil to properly warm through, a good 15-20 minutes until it reaches 80 deg f, thats with the sensor fitted in the sump plug. The water temp isn't a good indication to start using the revs.

flow of oil through the cooler. If the oil temperature is below 207° Fahrenheit, or 97° Celsius, the oil flows directly to the filter. Above 232° Fahrenheit, or 111° Celsius, the thermal valve routes oil through the cooler before the filter. The cooler uses engine coolant to lower the temperature of the oil before it enters the filter. 150 PSI Oil Pressure Gauge with VDO Sender and Metric Thread Adapters, 12V Learn More Cockpit International 10 bar/150 PSI Oil Pressure Gauge, Use with VDO Sender, 24V, .250" Spade Connection Engine.Oil.Temperature. The WIF sensor signal is monitored by the ECM for operation of the amber Water‑In‑Fuel lamp. Studies show that as the oil goes through the engine, it will, at some point, usually see about 50° higher temperature than the oil sump temperature. This means that with a sump temperature of 245°, some of the oil will be at 295° at some point and that is too high. Proper oil level would be as indicated in Figure 1, display 4-8 (bars showing oil level and flashing oil temperature, followed by "COLD OIL" message when engine is cold). DO NOT ADD OIL to bring level to the FULL mark on the dipstick of a COLD engine.
